The Duality of Balance

If it is your curiosity for hidden symbols and meanings that lead you here, you’ll be excited to know that we’re going to reveal what lies behind the concept of dualism in Batora: Lost Haven for the first time ever!

As you’ve probably already read, one of the key features of the game is the dualism between the two concepts of physical and mental and the need for their perfect balance to determine the cosmic order and preserve existence itself.

Dualism is the philosophical view that the universe has been ruled from its origins by the co-existence of opposing and complementary elements that depend on each other and give birth to the cosmos as we know it.

Besides being solidly entrenched in alchemy, Dualism is a recurrent theme in ancient traditions, religions, and philosophies all over the world, uniting them under the common belief that it is inherent in the very nature of things: black and white, positive and negative, sun and moon, hot and cold, light and darkness… They are all the expression of two mutually dependent natures, which parallelly coexist within the totality.

For instance, deeply rooted in ancient Chinese beliefs, Taoism, and other eastern philosophies, the Ying and Yang philosophy represents the duality of all things in the universe. The latter is indeed made up of energy and all energy contains a balance of yin and yang.

Another ancient symbol calling for the concept of dualism is the hexagram, which is also present on Batora: Lost Haven’s logo. Consisting of two interwoven equilateral triangles that form a six-pointed star, this symbol can be found in many different philosophical and cultural contexts and, most notably, in the Kabbalah and in Buddhism. It represents the harmony of the universe as the result of the union of two equal and opposite elements.

In Alchemy, the hexagram embodies the joining of the physical elements of fire (the triangle with the vertex facing upwards) and water (the one with the vertex facing downwards) which give rise to the cosmic balance.

Everything in Batora: Lost Haven, just as in the entire universe, is driven by opposing forces whose encounter and collision make their boundaries so blurred sometimes that the difference between black or white, good or evil cease to exist. Actually, often these concepts blend each other so much that they bring to a sort of underlying hypocrisy which is also one of the main topics in the game.

In this way, an apparently “right” choice might lead to chaos, and a seemingly “bad” one might have a positive outcome and it’s up to you to bear the weight of your decisions and shape the future of the entire universe.

This is just a taste of the universe of Batora: Lost Haven. Stay in touch for more and remember to wishlist the game on Steam!
